A series of interesting talking points have been forthcoming online this evening, on the back of the meeting between Aston Villa and Wolves.
‘Support the player’
Saturday’s penultimate Premier League fixture played out at Villa Park a short time ago.
The clash saw Dean Smith’s men play host to Wolves, in a highly anticipated showdown.
It was of course Villa who headed into proceedings boasting the advantage in the English top-flight table, but the visitors who had enjoyed the better spell of form of late.
As such, it didn’t come as too much of a surprise when, upon the final whistle sounding, the sides could not be separated.
This did not come amid a lack of chances created, however, with Wolves in particular having spurned more than one solid opportunity to take the lead.
The most clear-cut came early in the 2nd-half, when, after Conor Coady rattled the post with a header, Romain Saiss somehow managed to direct his follow-up over the crossbar, from a yard out:
“That is remarkable” 🤯
It’s a simply unbelievable miss from Romain Saiss who misses an open goal from point-blank range! 😲

In turn, speaking on the back of his side’s stalemate, Nuno Espirito Santo was inevitably drawn on his defender’s costly mishap.
The Wolves boss, however, was quick to leap to Saiss’ defence, assuring that he and his squad ‘always support the player’, regardless of the situation:
Nuno on Saiss miss: “He should have done better but the mistake is something we always support the player with.”

Martinez hailed
Whilst it was Saiss’ name which understandably took centre stage during the clash itself, however, it is has since proven the name of another which has grabbed the spotlight online in the game’s aftermath.
The player in question? Emiliano Martinez.
Villa no.1 Martinez was in splendid form throughout the action once again this evening, producing a number of world-class stops to keep the visitors at bay.
And, in turn, viewers of the matchup have gone on to label the Argentine the ‘signing of the season’, after linking up with Dean Smith’s squad from Arsenal last summer:
Emi Martinez is the signing of the season! Villa easily concede 3 a game without him
