Why Liverpool must pay Wolves £12m this summer

Liverpool to pay Wolves £12m

Wolves are set for a nice cash injection this summer.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are set to receive £12m from Premier League champions, Liverpool.

The reason – as per the Telegraph – comes in the form of the Reds’ signing of Diogo Jota during last summer’s transfer window.

Liverpool agreed a deal for the Portuguese worth up to £45m. However, as detailed by the Telegraph, Jurgen Klopp’s side paid just £4m upfront, and £1m in December.

The Merseysiders, though, are finally set to start paying out a decent chunk of Jota’s agreed fee this summer, with Wolves assured of £12m ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Since moving to Liverpool, Jota (when available) has acted as a key cog in Jurgen Klopp’s attack.

Before his injury, the Portuguese had scored five league goals in nine appearances, as well as netting four in the Champions League group stages.

And the 24-year-old now looks set to face off with his former side on Monday evening, when Wolves play host to Liverpool in the final Premier League fixture of the game week.

Despite putting two past RB Leipzig last Wednesday, the Reds have been in simply woeful form of late.

Defeat at the hands of relegation-battling Fulham earlier this month marked a historic 6th straight at Anfield for Jurgen Klopp’s men.

In turn, their hopes of even securing a top-four berth have taken a huge hit, with Liverpool heading into Monday’s action a full eight points off the Champions League spots.
