Why Fabianski missed West Ham’s meeting with Manchester City

Man City vs West Ham

Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off will see West Ham face off with Man City.

The Hammers head into the tie amid a fine run of form.

Their last outing saw the capital club get one over on London rivals Tottenham, to come away with a 2-1 win.

This result, in turn, saw West Ham climb up to an impressive 4th in the Premier League table.

Things are still very tight when it comes to the battle for a Champions League place, though, with all of Chelsea, Liverpool and Everton in the hunt for that 4th spot.

As a result, West Ham could really do with securing a positive result this weekend. Managing such a feat against the rampant Citizens, however, will prove easier said than done.

Why Fabianski missed out vs Man City

City are on a 19-game winning run across all competitions at present and 10 points clear of 2nd place Manchester United.

As a result, getting one over on Pep Guardiola’s side will no doubt prove a mammoth task for the Londoners.

And they are doing so without their no.1 goalkeeper for the season.

Lukasz Fabianski had featured in all but one of West Ham’s league games this season before Saturday.

However, the 35-year-old was completely omitted from the Hammers’ latest matchday squad with Darren Randolph in between the sticks and 22-year-old Nathan Trott the sub keeper.

An explanation for the shot-stopper’s absence has since been provided though, with BT Sport claiming Fabianski picked up an elbow injury in training on Friday:
