West Ham United midfielder Tomas Soucek has taken centre stage online for all the right reasons this weekend, following a show of respect for Manchester City.
Sky Blues march on
David Moyes’ men made the trip to the Etihad yesterday afternoon, for their latest Premier League outing.
The clash marked a highly anticipated one ahead of kick-off, with both sides in the midst of fine recent spells of form.
It was hosts City, though, who headed into proceedings as clear favourites, having rattled off a staggering 19 successive victories across all competitions.
And, when all was said and done on Saturday, this remarkable stretch only continued.
City opened the scoring when Kevin De Bruyne’s pinpoint delivery was nodded home by Ruben Dias on the half-hour mark:

West Ham, to their credit, did go on to pull one back on the stroke of the interval, as Michail Antonio got on the end of Jesse Lingard’s first-time ball to the back post.
But the Citizens juggernaut, in the end, simply proved too much for the admittedly impressive visitors to overcome, as John Stones’ fine finish from the middle of the box 20 minutes from time sent Guardiola and co. 13 points clear at the Premier League’s summit.
Soucek lauded
Despite their eventual defeat in Manchester, West Ham were actually singled out for widespread praise on the back of Saturday’s clash.
David Moyes’ men again proved their pedigree as one of the Premier League’s top sides, amid a stellar all-round display.
One Hammers star to have played a central role was unsurprisingly Tomas Soucek, amid a standout campaign on the part of the Czech international thus far.
It was not Soucek’s latest showing, however, which in fact saw him go viral online in the aftermath of the clash.
Instead, it was the surfacing of a video, which showcased the all-action midfielder making his way into the Etihad ahead of kick-off.
Soucek could be seen to be on his phone, but, upon the realisation that he was headed for the Man City crest, the 26-year-old quickly charted a new course, around the image and on, in a classy show of respect:
