Thomas Tuchel confirms he tried to sign Man United’s Bruno Fernandes whilst PSG boss

Chelsea vs Man United

The weekend’s marquee Premier League fixture will play out later today.

Manchester United are set to travel to Stamford Bridge for a 4:30 PM kick-off.

The tie could have huge implications on who secures a Champions League berth this season.

Chelsea entered the weekend down in 5th place. However, the Blues are in fine form, and currently sit just six points adrift of 2nd-placed United.

So, a win on Sunday would of course provide a major boost to the hosts’ hopes of clinching a top-4 berth. A victory for the Red Devils, on the other hand, would all but kill off Chelsea’s chances of catching them.

Tuchel tried to sign Bruno Fernandes

Ahead of the tie, meanwhile, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has been discussing Bruno Fernandes.

The Portuguese has of course been one of the Premier League’s standout stars since moving to Man United.

In 25 league games this season, Bruno has found the net 15 times, and provided 11 assists.

However, before his Old Trafford switch, Fernandes was courted by Tuchel’s former side, PSG, with the German having this weekend confirmed that the French champions tried to bring the midfielder to Paris during his time at the club:

“With my first sporting director in Paris, Antero Henrique, a Portuguese sporting director, and he knew Fernandes very well and we fought hard to have a connection to him and to bring him to our team.

“He was a big personality for Sporting and an effective goalscorer and an effective guy to make the other players around more dangerous.

“I got aware of him more in detail because of my sporting director that knew him very well, so we watched more and more games about him and followed him and tried to be in touch with him to make it happen.

“Obviously he decided and I was never personally in touch with him, but we tried and he went another way. Bad for us that we have to play against him.”
