Bruce pleased with Willock
Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce took Arsenal attacking midfielder Joe Willock on loan in January and has been exceptionally pleased with the impact that he has made since joining the Magpies.
Willock was struggling for regular game time at Arsenal under Mikel Arteta especially with the arrival of Martin Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid.
“He has played further forward before but I’m also wary of the impact he’s had in midfield so there’s a decision to be made. I’ve been very pleased with him. He has given us something different and has the energy in midfield and he can score a goal,” said Bruce.

With the number of attacking players out for Newcastle there will be greater emphasis on Willock to step up and fill the void left by those that are out.
Wilson, Almiron & Saint-Maximin updates
Bruce provided an update on his three main attacking talents who are all currently out. Newcastle have lost Allan Saint-Maximin, Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson to injury which has had a big impact on their defensive output.
Newcastle have no further injury concerns ahead of Aston Villa which will please Bruce.
“We’ve got no new injuries to report. Javier Manquillo has worked extremely hard and was a week or two quicker than expected so it was good to see him around it. Fernández is back amongst it too which is good news.”

Bruce seemed upbeat regarding the news of his key three attacking player’s recovery from injury.
“Everything is going to plan [with Almirón, Saint-Maximin and Wilson]. Almirón is making particularly good progress which is good news. The international break may just do us a favour so let’s hope they can keep responding the way they are.”
