Solskjaer provides positive updates on Pogba, Martial & more following Man United’s win over West Ham

Man United vs West Ham

Sunday’s Premier League action drew to a close at Old Trafford, when Manchester United played host to West Ham.

With Chelsea having dropped points already this weekend, today’s game marked a great chance for the Hammers to gain some ground in the top-four race.

Man United sat in 3rd place ahead of kick-off, two points off Leicester in 2nd, and six points clear of West Ham, who also boast a game in hand on the Reds.

David Moyes’ Irons, meanwhile, would have drawn level on points with Chelsea in 4th with a win in Manchester.

Man United come out on top

There were very few talking points stemming from the opening 45 minutes of action this evening.

West Ham sat deep, doing a great job of limiting Man United’s attacking threat.

And on the rare occasion that the hosts did break through, Lukasz Fabianski was on hand to pull off a top-drawer save.

United carried their dominance into the second 45, though, and eventually found an opener after 53 minutes.

Bruno Fernandes floated a corner into the Hammers’ box, which was turned into his own net by Craig Dawson.

The Red Devils then nearly doubled their lead just after the hour-mark, but Fabianski again came to West Ham’s rescue, pushing wide a long-range effort from Bruno Fernandes.

West Ham, in turn, finally came to life, and began to take the game to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.

This left the Londoners somewhat exposed, though, allowing United to counter and hit the post late on.

In the end, neither side was able to conjure up the 2nd of the evening, as Manchester United eventually came away with a big three points, guiding them back up to 2nd, a full nine points clear of 5th.

Solskjaer on Martial, Pogba & more

Following his side’s win on Sunday, meanwhile, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provided updates on the fitness of a number of United’s stars

Both Anthony Martial and Edinson Cavani missed out against West Ham through injury.

However, the United boss revealed his hope that the attacking pair will be back fit to face AC Milan on Thursday. Solskjaer also confirmed that Paul Pogba may too return:

“We hope so, we hope to have Edinson [Cavani] and Anthony [Martial] available, maybe Paul [Pogba] and David [de Gea] is finished with quarantine. Not bad players!”
