Guendouzi’s loan deal
Matteo Guendouzi is currently on loan at Hertha Berlin after a series of incidents at Arsenal left him completely out of favour with head coach Mikel Arteta. Last year he spoke to French media about the decision to move to Germany.
“They are a very good club with big ambitions. So, I have left to go on loan there for a year, so I will give everything I can for this club. I needed playing time, I need to play, I needed to enjoy myself on the pitch and that is what I am going to do this year,” he said.

When asked if playing time was not possible at Arsenal he denied the claim.
“It is not that, I just really needed to play this year, a new challenge. That was the most important thing for me. I am still young, I am only 21, so playing time was the top priority for me. So Hertha Berlin, I know that I will be able to express myself in a magnificent league.”
Arsenal signed Thomas Partey in the summer and continued with a second loan for Dani Ceballos, competition for places with Granit Xhaka and Mohamed Elneny was already rife and Guendouzi’s output and enigmatic positioning in combination with his notable temperament made the decision to loan him out a seemingly easy one.
Guendouzi going through puberty?
Hertha Berlin’s head coach Pal Dardai gave an odd interview explaining his reasoning behind the Frenchman’s temperament.
“It’s like puberty for him, he’s kind of a rebel. He has to work and learn like an animal,” he said.
Guendouzi made a mistake in the 3-0 loss to RB Leipzig just moments after being brought on which cost Hertha another goal. Dardai was honest in his assessment and said that it was an issue he is making on a regular basis.
“In training, I always stop these kind of duels because you can’t fall to the ground like this. And, afterwards, he’s mad.”
It is well within the realms of possibility that Arsenal will look to sell Guendouzi at the end of the season although there had been reports that the club were open to him returning and integrating back into the squad.
.@FabrizioRomano: “Arsenal plan to sell Torreira and make money. For Matteo Guendouzi it’s different, they will decide next summer what to do.” [@podcastherewego]
