RB Leipzig director says Julian Nagelsmann’s success does ‘arouse desire’ amongst the likes of Spurs

Mourinho denies crisis

Jose Mourinho and Spurs are on a very difficult run of form in the league. Whilst they have progressed to the last 16 of the Europa League, they currently sit 9th in the Premier League table after losing 2-1 to high-flying West Ham United who have taken 4 points away from the Portuguese coach’s team this season.

Despite the pressure, Mourinho denied the fact that his club are in a period of crisis.

“I don’t know what you mean by crisis. If crisis is frustration and sadness in the dressing room, I’d say so because nobody is happy and we all showed that in this game.”

“When a team fights the way the team did until the last second, trying to get a different result, it’s never a group crisis, because groups are in crisis when you’re not together in the search for better results than you have.”

“So I wouldn’t say crisis, I would say a bad, a really bad run of results. That is obvious. We’re losing too many matches.”

Spurs have a favourable run of fixtures against Burnley, Fulham, Crystal Palace, Arsenal, Aston Villa and Newcastle United incoming. Should they fail to arrest their slide, it could be curtains for Mourinho.

Leipzig executive speaks

RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krösche has played down reports linking Julian Nagelsmann with Tottenham. Nagelsmann took over the job after his fine work at Hoffenheim and led the German side to a Champions League semi-final which they lost to PSG.

With Spurs currently languishing in mid-table, Nagelsmann has been touted with a possible move to the Premier League should Mourinho get the sack. However, Krösche believes there is no reason for the coach to leave now.

“When you do a good job, you arouse desire,” he said. “But Julian feels comfortable because he has everything he needs here. The team is developing great.”

“That’s why I see no reason for him to switch – especially since he has a valid contract with us.”

Leipzig appear to be Bayern’s only potential title challengers this season, currently just 2 points away from Hansi Flick’s side. Were Nagelsmann to topple the Bavarians from their summit, his stock would likely ascend to top-tier status.
