Newcastle boss Steve Bruce provides updates on Allan Saint-Maximin & Callum Wilson ahead of West Brom

West Brom vs Newcastle

West Brom and Newcastle United are set to face off on Sunday in what could be a huge tie in this season’s relegation scrap.

As of writing, West Brom are firmly entrenched in the relegation zone, having notched just 17 points in 27 league outings this season.

As for Newcastle, their recent form has seen them slip down to 17th in the Premier League table.

And though West Brom, who Newcastle have played on game less than, do look unlikely to catch the Magpies now, Steve Bruce’s side are still well in danger of slipping into the bottom three.

This comes with Scott Parker’s Fulham, currently 18th, just three points adrift of the North East outfit.

Granted, Newcastle also have a game in hand on Fulham, but given their current form, it is hard to see Newcastle actually going on to win that tie.

So, with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Tottenham, Leicester and Aston Villa still to play this term, Newcastle could really do with a win against a fairly weak Baggies side this weekend.

Steve Bruce on Wilson, Saint-Maximin & Almiron

Ahead of Sunday’s game, Steve Bruce held his latest press conference on Friday.

During the presser, Bruce provided updates on several of his players.

Firstly, Bruce confirmed that both Allan Saint-Maximin and Miguel Almiron are set to be out until after the international break:

“Really frustrating and disappointing. One is a muscle injury and one is an impact injury on his knee. We’re hoping that maybe after the international break we can have them back.”

The Newcastle boss also confirmed that Callum Wilson is still ‘a little bit away’:

“It’s rest and recovery for him. He’s working with the physios and lightly jogging but he’s unfortunately still going to be a little bit away.”
