Who is Benoit Badiashile?
Badiashile, 19, is a product of AS Monaco’s youth system.
Despite his tender years, the youngster spent the last couple of seasons slowly pushing his way into Monaco’s senior set-up, courtesy of some impressive displays.
Over the course of the prior two campaigns combined, Badiashile notched 36 Ligue 1 appearances.
And, thus far in 2020/21, he has established himself as a key cog in Monaco’s backline, garnering 25 appearances in the French top-flight, across which he has scored two and assisted one.
The defender’s standout displays have also seen him establish himself as a regular starter for France’s youth teams, including at under-19 level, where he has already garnered 15 appearances.
Man United made move for Badiashile
And such fine form, in turn, has unsurprisingly resulted in interest from at least one top European club.
It was claimed during last summer’s transfer window that Manchester United were interested in Badiashile:
⚪️🔴 AS #Monaco have rejected a €25m offer from Manchester #United for defender Benoît #Badiashile – Niko Kovac has told his board that he wants to keep the Frenchman & that they should reject all bids for him
— Mohamed Bouhafsi (@mohamedbouhafsi) August 26, 2020
And now, such claims appear to have been proven true, with the stopper himself having confirmed an approach on the part of the Red Devils during a recent interview:
“It was the right choice, first off is that I have not enjoyed good seasons since I have been at Monaco.
“We played to stay up and so now I am really experiencing being at the top of the table and I think that continuing with the club that trained me was the right decision and this is being proved by the season that we are having.”
When asked if he regrets rejecting United, the Frenchman assured:
“No, not at all.”
