Man City equal long-standing Arsenal record as remarkable win streak stays alive

Manchester City etched their name further into the history books of English football tonight, courtesy of a comfortable win over Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Jesus at the double

The Sky Blues welcomed Nuno Espirito Santo’s men to the Etihad a short time ago, for their latest Premier League outing.

Pep Guardiola’s men of course headed into proceedings as overwhelming favourites to secure all 3 points, amid a remarkable spell of recent form.

City had notched no fewer than 20 consecutive victories across all competitions ahead of the clash, a stretch which had seen them open up a 12-point lead atop the English top-flight.

And, when all was said and done this evening, the Citizens continued to roll.

They took the lead with 15 minutes on the clock, when Riyad Mahrez’s delivery across the face of goal was directed home by Wolves’ Leander Dendoncker.

The visitors, to their credit, managed to get themselves back on level terms just past the hour mark, though, when Conor Coady nodded home Joao Moutinho’s fine set-piece delivery.

In the end, however, despite Wolves’ best efforts, the City juggernaut eventually proved too much.

A pair of late strikes from Gabriel Jesus, either side of a typically silky Mahrez finish, eventually saw Guardiola and co. emerge on the right side of a 4-1 scoreline:

Gunners matched

As outlined above, meanwhile, as well as extending their win streak to an eye-watering 21 games across all competitions, City’s latest result also saw the Manchester giants equal a long-standing Premier League record.

This comes with the Sky Blues having now not trailed for a single minute across any of their latest 19 outings in the English top-flight.

The only other Premier League side to achieve such a feat were Arsenal, between December of 1998 and May of 1999:
