A recent report stemming from Italy has credited Liverpool with an interest in Udinese’s Rodrigo De Paul.

Who is De Paul?

De Paul joined Udinese in 2016, departing La Liga outfit Valencia for a fee of around €3m.

And the midfielder, now 26, has gone on to become a crucial member of the Serie A outfit’s squad.

All told, the Argentine has notched 171 appearances for Udinese, across which he has racked up an impressive 30 goals and 30 assists.

De Paul is a central midfielder by trade, and though he can play in a more defensive role or slightly further forward, is best utilised in a box-to-box role.

This is where he has been most effective for Udinese, chipping in with goals and assists, whilst also helping out at the back.

Liverpool linked with De Paul

So, it shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise to see Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool linked with De Paul.

Players like Jordan Henderson and Georginio Wijnaldum, who have proven to be effective at both ends of the pitch, have enjoyed considerable success in Klopp’s system. Others, such as Naby Keita and Thiago, though, who are much more attack-minded, have not been as impactful.

But with Wijnaldum’s current Liverpool deal up in the summer, the Reds will probably need to look to the market to help replace him. And De Paul looks a solid option.

In turn, according to a recent report from TuttoUdinese, the Argentine is indeed a target for Klopp and co., with the Merseysiders said to be ready to table an offer of at least €30m for his signature.
