Klopp reveals TAA & Robertson decision
Liverpool have experienced serious injuries with their backline this season. So much so that even their deputising unorthodox selection of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have also suffered injury issues themselves. Henderson is now out for a significant period having undergone surgery.
Klopp was asked ahead of the match with Sheffield United if he had considered using any of his full-backs, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson, as centre-back options. He admitted the thought crossed his mind but one he quickly dismissed.
“I’ve thought about it once or twice to be honest but we didn’t do it,” he said.

Klopp explained that were he to choose one of the formers to do so, the tactical implications on the side would be too great for it to be effective.
“The thing is that losing the centre-halves that you usually play with changes the complete structure of the game. It changes everything. It changes the build up, the formation, how to protect the team, everything.
“So you have to build a team in this position for how you can defend and that changes on who you have to play there. That is one thing we have had to change constantly. The other thing that is pretty stable for us is how our full-backs play and perform.
“So changing that too changes the structure of how you perform on the wings too, so that is a double change.”
Jurgen Klopp on whether he has considered playing TAA or Robbo at CB:
“I’ve thought about it once or twice to be honest but we didn’t do it. If we change where they play, it changes how the structure and how we set up on the wing, which is why I probably didn’t do it.” 🔄 pic.twitter.com/90HINiN1G0

Enrique asks for Davies
Former Liverpool full-back Jose Enrique has called on Klopp to give January signing Ben Davies his first start in a Liverpool shirt ahead of the match with Sheffield United.
‘Which center-back pairing would you use for the game against Sheffield?’ Enrique posted onto his Instagram page.
‘With Fabinho only returning to training tomorrow and the rest of our options injured, it comes down to Davies, Phillips, and Kabak.’
‘In my opinion, it will be Davies either with Phillips or Kabak I’m not sure but I’m going down more for Philips but definitely want to see Davies play is never going to be a better chance for him because when Fabinho is back we know what happens. So, which pair you will play if you were Klopp?’
Whether Davies is given his first opportunity remains to be seen with Ozan Kabak and Nathaniel Phillips both alternative options for the German coach.
