A report in the German media has moved to explain why Erling Haaland is unlikely to join Chelsea
Haaland impressing
Erling Haaland is of course well on his way to becoming one of the best strikers of the 21st century.
The Norwegian joined Borussia Dortmund in January of 2020 and he has since gone on to notch a sensational record both domestically and in Europe.
All told, Haaland has scored 43 and assisted 11 in just 45 outings for BVB, a return which only top players such as Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Robert Lewandowski are usually able to provide in Europe’s top-five leagues.
Haaland not looking at Chelsea
Such fine form at such a young is age is obviously going to attract interest from all over the world.
According to the Norwegian’s agent, Minoa Raiola, only 10 clubs, four of which are English, could afford Haaland:
“Only a maximum of 10 clubs can afford to buy Haaland and give the platform you would like after you’ve been in Dortmund, and four of those clubs are in England.
“I don’t think there’s a sports director or trainer in the world who would say ‘not interested’. It’s like saying: ‘Is there a Formula 1 team who would not be interested in having Lewis Hamilton?’”
Now, though, the aforementioned report from German outlet Bild has reduced that number even further.
As per Sport Witness, citing Bild, Haaland himself sees only six clubs and Chelsea are not included in the list.
The report goes on to claim that Haaland doesn’t want to take an intermediate step and wants to join ‘an absolute top club’, with Chelsea seemingly not currently viewed as that.
The front page of Bild also featured Haaland, with the caption ‘Warum Chelsea Kaine chance hat’, which roughly translates to ‘ why Chelsea has no chance’:
