Eric Bailly in talks over new ‘long-term’ Manchester United contract

Eric Bailly

An update on the future of Manchester United’s Eric Bailly has been provided over the weekend.

Bailly’s Man United stint

Eric Bailly joined Manchester United in 2016, from Spanish outfit Villarreal.

The centre-back is believed to have set United back around €38m.

Despite the fairly hefty fee, though, Bailly has since struggled to nail down a regular starting spot for the Manchester powerhouse.

One of the main reasons for this has been the Ivorian’s horrendous fitness record since he joined the Red Devils.

During his stint in England, Bailly has picked up 15 separate injuries, which have seen him miss over 90 games for Man United.

Bailly set for new deal?

So, whilst at 26, the stopper is theoretically only just coming into his prime, his future with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side has long remained unclear.

This comes with Bailly’s current contract set to run out in 2022.

If United do hope to recoup some money from the defender’s sale, they would probably be best served selling him this summer, whilst he still has a year left on his deal.

However, as mentioned above, a report in the English media over the weekend has shed some light on the stopper’s future.

And, if the Sun‘s claims prove accurate, it looks as though Bailly could be sticking around at Old Trafford for at least the next few years. It is claimed that he is in fact in talks over a new long-term Manchester United contract.

The negotiations, which remain at an early stage, are thought to surround a possible 3-year deal.
