Edinson Cavani’s father claims Manchester United striker does not ‘feel comfortable’ in England

Recent comments on the part of Edinson Cavani’s father have done nothing to quell speculation that the forward could depart Manchester United in the summer.

Cavani’s Man United stint

Manchester United signed Edinson Cavani on a free transfer during the delayed summer window.

The Uruguayan had of course previously been plying his trade with Ligue 1 powerhouse PSG.

And, despite now being 34, Cavani has since proven himself to be a very useful signing for United.

Despite spending much of his first half-season at Old Trafford as an impact sub, the South American has already scored several key goals for the Manchester outfit.

For example, his haul of two goals and an assist against Southampton back in November saw the Red Devils come from behind to secure a 3-2 win.

The hitman also netted crucial goals in the club’s 2-1 win over Fulham, and 3-3 draw with Everton.

However, despite having proven a solid acquisition to date, Cavani’s Manchester United future beyond the current season remains up in the air.

The Premier League giants signed him to a one-year deal, but do have the option to extend the terms for a further year.

Cavani’s father speaks out

Despite this, speculation began to mount earlier this week that Cavani would leave United in the summer and join Bocca Juniors:

And now, as mentioned above, Cavani’s father’s comments are unlikely to quell those rumours in any way.

Speaking recently, Luis Cavani stated that his son is not currently comfortable where he is and that there is a 60 per cent chance he will move to South America:

“There is a 60% chance that Edinson will come to South America.

“We are very anxious. We have always been to visit him, he has been in very beautiful places where people have received him very well.

“He has made himself loved, he has made many friends, but today he does not feel comfortable where he is.

“He has been thinking for more than two years that he wants to be closer to his family and that is the reason why I think Edi is going to end up playing for a team from here in South America.”
