Declan Rice confirms West Ham penalty pecking order following Lingard’s miss vs Leeds

West Ham United star Declan Rice has this evening opened up the penalty-taking pecking order at the club, on the back of his side’s victory over Leeds United.

JLingz & Dawson on target

David Moyes’ high-flying Hammers welcomed Leeds to the capital a short time ago, for a Premier League showdown.

The hosts headed into proceedings in search of a bounce-back result, albeit whilst having enjoyed a remarkable campaign to date.

Ahead of kick-off, West Ham were aware that a victory would guide them to within two points of 4th-placed Chelsea, despite having a game in hand on their London rivals.

And, when all was said and done on Monday, this is precisely what the Irons managed.

An entertaining affair, during which both sides could easily have added to the scoreline further, eventually saw Moyes and co. emerge on the right side of a 2-0 result.

Jesse Lingard continued his fine spell of form since making the move to the London Stadium in January with West Ham’s opener after 20 minutes, before Craig Dawson nodded home to round out the evening’s scoring a short time later:

‘Me again!’

One minimal concern on an otherwise fine night all-round for West Ham on Monday, though, came seconds prior to Jesse Lingard opening the game’s scoring.

This came with the Manchester United loanee having actually seen a poor penalty effort saved by Ilian Meslier, only for Lingard to slot home on the rebound.

In turn, speaking during a post-match interview, Declan Rice – the man generally tasked with taking responsibility of spot-kicks awarded to the Hammers – was drawn on the pecking order at the London Stadium at present.

And the English international, after providing an insight into the process which ultimately led to Lingard stepping up on this occasion, went on to confirm that David Moyes has since informed him that he is now back on duties from 12 yards with immediate effect:

‘The gaffer’s just said in there now it’s definitely me again!’

‘So the next one now I’m going to have to say Jess, look give me the ball.’
