Ihattaren’s last chance
PSV’s 19 year old talent Mohammed Ihattaren is reportedly on his last chance at the club according to head coach Roger Schmidt. Ihattaren has been rated as one of the world’s rising stars for some time despite being just 19 years of age.
He was featured in the Guardian’s top 60 Next Generation talents list in 2019 and has continued to feature heavily for his team ever since.
Being compared to former Barca player Ibrahim Affelay, Bart Vlietstra described the youngster as an ‘outgoing’ player with huge self-confidence.
‘One difference between the two is, however, that Ihattaren is more outgoing, telling everyone from the age of six that he was going to make his first-team debut within 10 years. Did he? Of course he did, featuring for PSV against FC Groningen in January 2019,’ wrote Vlietstra.

He has even been linked to the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City. Now though, it seems his outgoing ways could let him down.
Ihattaren’s last chance
Schmidt is not happy with the Dutch youngster’s attitude, even making public comparisons to colleagues he should be looking to replicate the demeaner of.
“It was totally unacceptable,” said Schmidt. “It was impossible for me to include him in the group. Today he was able to see what is needed at his position. If he works as hard as Mario Götze, Ryan Thomas, Mauro Júnior, Cody Gakpo or Noni Madueke, things can work out. If not, it has no chance.”
Roger Schmidt at his press conference on Ihattaren, “He will only play again if he can bring at least the same level as his teammates. We are not going to change him. He can only change himself.” (via @FrankWielaard )

Schmidt spoke of how they have tried to help support Ihattaren and even tried to ‘change him’ but it seems their patience could be running out.
“It’s not a one-way street. Of course you have to support and help someone, but from the other side something also has to come back. Ultimately, it is always the same in life: you cannot change people, people can only change themselves,” said the German coach.
“We tried to change him. It’s up to him now. It is also not always easy for young players. Hype quickly develops around them. Everyone is looking for these types of players. Everything is still possible, but we now have to change the style of aid.”
