Sule’s Bayern Munich stint

Niklas Sule joined Bayern Munich from Hoffenheim in 2017, for a fee of around £18m.

And the stopper has since gone on to establish himself as an integral member of the Bundesliga outfit’s backline.

The 25-year-old has notched 125 appearances across all competitions for Bayern.

Sule did miss a good chunk of last season through injury, but he has since returned to the heart of Bayern’s defence.

Chelsea eyeing Sule

And Sule’s fine form, in turn, appears to be attracting interest from elsewhere in Europe, with it claimed earlier this month that the 29-time capped international was on the shortlist of Premier League giants Chelsea:

Sule’s current terms run until 2022, meaning he will have just one year left on his contract come the summer.

As such, if Bayern hope to recoup a decent figure for his services, they may need to part ways with the German come the end of the campaign.

When drawn on Sule’s future during a recent interview, however, Bavarians CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge confirmed that the club intend to hold talks with the defender in the near future, to extend his contract ‘under certain conditions’:

“We want the good German national team players at FC Bayern. Niklas still has one year of the contract.

“We will hold talks and see where they’ll lead. We will look at the whole thing seriously & calmly by the summer.

“Corona (Covid-19 pandemic) has also caused financial damage to FC Bayern.

“If we find a solution, we are happy to extend the contract, but that will only be possible under certain conditions.”
