Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta linked to Barcelona hot seat

Arteta pleased with Leicester win

Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta was able to continue his side’s turnaround in form as they beat Leicester City 3-1 at the King Power Stadium.

Despite going a goal down to a Youri Tielemans strike, goals from David Luiz, Alexandre Lacazette and Nicolas Pepe were enough to take all three points and win away from home against a side in the top 3 for the first time since 2015.

Arteta was asked whether this was his side’s best performance since taking over.

“I don’t know but I’m certainly happy with the performance of the team, and again the character, the composure that we showed. Coming here after a very short turnaround from Benfica, and going down very early put us in a really difficult position against a Leicester team that probably is the best in that area,” he said.

“I think we played some really good moments in the game, looked really solid, we dominated the game and I think overall we deserved the win.”

Arteta masterminded the first league win at Old Trafford earlier in the season since 2006, these accomplishments are building up but the Spaniard is focused on the bigger picture.

“For me it’s not only about that, it’s how we play against an opponent of top quality. It’s about composing ourselves, trying to be Arsenal all the time – it doesn’t matter who we play against, it’s about having the courage to do it against top-quality players. I’m proud of the win but more about the way we’ve done it.”

Laporta wants Arteta at Barca

Despite Arsenal still having, in relation to their league position, one of their poorer seasons, this has not stopped possible rumours about Mikel Arteta being poached by another club in the future.

Barcelona, the club which Mikel Arteta came through at, is supposedly interested in the young coach.

RAC‘s Barca correspondent has suggested that presidential candidate Joan Laporta sees Arteta as an option for the club if Ronald Koeman is not favoured to continue at beyond the current campaign.

‘Mikel Arteta is one of the options for Joan Laporta’s candidacy to take the Barça bench if Koeman does not continue next season,’ was wrote on social media.

Barcelona have struggled this season to maintain pace with title favourites Atletico Madrid, despite taking over typical rivals Real Madrid having played one more game. Koeman could be out the door should results not pick up before the end of the season.
