Burnley vs Arsenal
Saturday’s early Premier League kick-off saw Arsenal face a trip to Turf Moor for a clash with Burnley.
The Gunners headed into the tie in fairly mixed form and down in 10th place in the Premier League table.
Mikel Arteta’s side had lost three of their last five league ties before Saturday.
Said form meant their hopes of securing any form of European football via the league were very much fading.
However, a bright start against Sean Dyche’s side has seen the north Londoners move up to 9th in the league for the time being, andto within five points of 6th and three points of 7th (which can become a Europa League place depending on who wins the domestic cups).
Partey impressing
It took Arsenal less than seven minutes to open the scoring at Turf Moor.
Willian would play in Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who cut in on his favoured left side before beating Nick Pope at his near post.

It was neither of that duo who have since garnered the attention of the Gunners’ faithful following the opener, though.
Instead, it was Thomas Partey’s involvement in the strike which has since been the talk of social media.
As shown in the replay above, Partey picked up the ball near his box. But instead of passing it backwards, which Granit Xhaka can be seen telling him to do, the former Atletico Madrid charged forward, beating a man, playing a one-two with Xhaka before slipping in Willian, who of course went on to set up Aubameyang.
And it is this forward-thinking play which has since seen Partey become the recipient of countless praise on social media:
Thomas Partey is a Rolls-Royce footballer. Unreal.

Brilliant cutting pass by Partey to set Willian on the run and Auba finishes. Another Willian assist

I love Thomas Partey. Always forward thinking and vertical with his passing.

Partey is such a baller! Always looking to play forward #BURARS

Absolutely loved Thomas Partey’s bullishness in the build up to that goal. Quite simple really but after seeing our players play backwards so often this season, it’s refreshing to see Partey show what a bit of quick, neat forward passing can produce.

Xhaka pointed to Tierney, Partey said f that play me a 1-2 and he carried the ball forward. Love it.
