Andy Robertson responds to claims of bust-up with Liverpool teammate Alisson

Liverpool defender Andrew Robertson has spoken out for the first time regarding speculation of a bust-up between he and teammate Alisson Becker.

Champions faltering

Jurgen Klopp’s men are of course enduring something of a torrid time at present.

Amid a host of injury issues, and a general loss of form, the Reds have seen their attempts to retain the Premier League title go up in smoke.

Defeat in the Merseyside derby over the weekend marked Liverpool’s 4th straight in the English top-flight, leaving them not only a full 19 points adrift of table-topping Manchester City, but also 5 points off the top-4.

It was one particular loss during this stretch, however, which was rumoured to have resulted in serious issues breaking out in the champions’ dressing room.

After throwing away the lead to eventually succumb to a 3-1 downing at the hands of Leicester City, speculation quickly began to swirl that a bust-up between Andy Robertson and Alisson had seen the pair come to blows.

Such claims were unsurprisingly quickly brushed off as little more than media rumours, with Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson having doubled down on the assurance that nothing had in fact happened last week.

‘A bit bored’

Amongst those who had since failed to address the rumour, however, were those claimed to have been involved.

Robertson and Alisson had no doubt viewed it as completely unnecessary to speak out, when there was no proof of the incident having taken place in the first place.

But, speaking in an interview with Sky Sports this weekend, the former was nevertheless drawn on the situation.

And stopper Robertson went on to put the speculation to bed once and for all, jokingly revealing his disappointment with the fact that, according to the rumours, it was he who came out worse from the scuffle:

‘I don’t look like the boxing type, do I? The least [likely] two people to fight in the dressing room are myself and Ali; I think people are sitting at home a bit bored.’

‘Obviously somebody made up a rumour that the gaffer didn’t come home, whereas me and Ali were fighting.’

‘I love how I was the one who ended up with the burst lip. I would rather it was the other way about but beggars can’t be choosers!’

‘The stuff that was getting written was a lot of nonsense. For the players and everyone in the training ground, we just need to block all that out.’
