Despite the huge criticism of the goalkeeping options, the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s captain Ahmed Musa has backed the selected goalkeepers for the competition.
The trio of Francis Uzoho, Ojo Olorunleke and Stanley Nwabili were selected for the African Cup of Nations by coach Jose Peseiro.
The goalkeeping position of the team has been a major concern for football stakeholders across the country and beyond but Musa has insisted that they are capable enough.
“I think our goalkeepers are one of the best, it’s like saying to friends your home countries’ food is not good,” Musa said in the pre-match press conference in Abidjan on Saturday morning ahead of their tournament opener against Equatorial Guinea.
Super Eagles will face Equatoria Guinea in the opening group game on Sunday.
